Here is an example:
- 100 people subscribe to the 150-Club, @ £10 per month.
- This generates monthly a pot of £1000.
- 3 lucky winners are selected randomly each month to share 40% of the pot, £400.
- The 1st prize winner wins 20% of the pot - £200
- The 2nd prize winner wins 15% of the pot - £150
- The 3rd prize winner wins 5% of the pot - £50.
- Sustainable Pettinain SCIO receives £600, which over a year could raise a whopping £7200!
As the 150-Club lottery is set-up we will be adding more details to this page, but below are the answers to some questions you may have.

There are ~ 150 households in the Pettinain community. So if one member (over 16) in every household chooses to join we will have 150 people! (but we would welcome more!).
However, this is not an activity limited to one subscription per household, but rather is linked to an individual. So maybe all members of a household would like individually to be part of this, or maybe some households would choose not to.
It is fully scalable and the table below shows an example of a £10 monthly subscription and a different number of subscribers:
- A pint of beer / glass of wine average cost was ~ £4.40 / £4.80 in 2024
- A Euromillions ticket is £2.50 (with the odds of winning here are 1 in 139,838,160, whereas this 150-Club is likely to be no poorer than 3 in 200)
- A Costa Coffee large latte is £4.40
- The average price of a packet of cigarettes is ~ £15
Everyone who is a subscriber has to pay the same amount for it to be fair (a winner paying less would be unfair).
However we do need to work for financial security for the SCIO and volunteer time has to be used as efficiently as possible, so £10 a month subscription helps with this. And a smaller suscription means smaller prize money...

Please register interest so that we can email you with more specific detail once we have registered with South Lanarkshire Council to run a small society lottery.
We will ask you to register interest using our hall booking system and have set up an 'event' for this. We are using this approach as it securely holds your personal data and generates a group email for us. If you have not previously booked the hall or bought event tickets you will have to register as a new user - but this is a quick and simple process!
